Rewatch the Brawl on DVD

Our coverage of the Brawl has ended with the final whistle of the WCR’s rise to the top of the North Central region - but your enjoyment of the Brawl need not!  This is likely to be the only way to be able to rewatch the Brawl, as Internet rebroadcast of the event is not expected.  DVDs of each Brawl match are available for $10/match, or $100 for the entire set of fifteen.

Possible fraud by Brawl of America vendor

Posted by Minnesota RollerGirls, 09/23/09

The Brawl of America apologizes if you have received aggressive or repeated sales calls after providing a Brawl of America vendor with your contact information for a prize drawing. We’ve been informed by a number of our own members that they’ve received phone calls claiming they’ve won a travel package prize and claiming that in order to ensure said prize, a credit card number must be given.

While we do not have proof, we feel this is not a request a legitimate business would make. We encourage you to refuse any request for personal or financial information in order to claim a prize you have supposedly won; a reputable business would never do that.

Some examples:

  • They need to “secure a promotional fee of $299 per person before they can send out the vacation package”
  • The caller told him he “had won a trip to the Bahamas worth $2500, but he needed $300/person ‘to confirm/hold his space’”
  • The caller said “there was a 2-day cruise to the Caribbean cruise as well as vacations to Las Vegas and to Puerta Vallarta available, but they needed $589 to ‘confirm her identity as the winner’”

YOUR CHAMPIONS, WINDY CITY ROLLERS 150-56

Posted by Garrison Killer, 09/20/09

Congratulations to the Windy City Rollers tonight!  We are privileged to have seen this chapter of roller derby history happen - the WCR…so powerful throughout this tournament - took the lead early and never looked back.  Madison put on some beautiful magic - but nothing could stop the speedsters from the Windy City.

As champions, the WCR will travel to Philly with a bye in the first round, while Madison will take on Boston’s Derby Dames.

What a weekend, and we are so pleased that you could be with us for the duration.  So many thanks - we’ll leave that for another time, but thanks in volume are coming.

Best to you all,
-Garrison Killer and Eve L Hazard

Windy City up by 71 at the half - 90-19

Posted by Garrison Killer, 09/20/09

This matchup - for the North Central championship, for the bye berth at Nationals, and for pride of the Midwest has been a study in the effect of fast-derby tactics on an extraordinary team.  The Mad Rollin’ Dolls continue to play their style of hard-hitting, precise blocking with a remarkable competence, but they are having trouble keeping up with Varla Vendetta and Shocka Conduit.  Varla and Shocka took control of four early power jams to establish a hard, firm control on scoreboard - and instead of sitting on that lead, they have continued to increase that lead.  Madison’s one lead jam in which they took more than five points came from a Juke Boxx-Mouse pass the star, but that has been the extent to which MRD has been able to innovate.

At the half: 90-19.

Detroit goes to Nationals in Consolation bout win

Posted by Garrison Killer, 09/20/09

Although this game began with multiple nil-nil jams, the work of Racer McChaseHer early on kept the Detroit girls on top, even through a much more even second half.  Though Cincy put up 44 points - tripling their score from the first half, that would not overcome the hard work and determination of Detroit.

Detroit will face Gotham in the first round at Nationals - good luck to the toast of Michigan, the Detroit Derby Girls!

At the half, Detroit well ahead 73-18

Posted by Garrison Killer, 09/20/09

The game has been relatively lopsided thus far; Racer McChaseher has completely sent the Detroit team into the stratosphere with two spectacular jams - one with thirteen points, one as part of star-passed thirty.  Though Cincy has been doing some nice work with withholding jammers up front, but no Cincy jammer has passed the pack more than once in scoring.

With a sextuple slam during a power jam and such solid blocking, it’s no wonder that Detroit is ahead 73-18 at the half.

Sextuple jam.  Never seen that at this level.  Insane.
